Great Idea Gator James Fiske Had and an Outstanding Question :)
Many People are joining social networks hosted by Ning. I discovered how to make a header photo larger and cover more page space. Visit my first page creation at the Ad Surf Zone, I had not figured this out yet, so the header photo is smallish, not deep rather, and then the still photos I used in the background were small and had to be blocked or tiled out, if you use a larger photo, your picture will stretch the length.
To find out how large your photo is, hover your mouse over the photo you want to size up while viewing your "My Picture" folder (usually located under "My Documents") and can view the photos you have stored on your computer. The Photo on The Blog Nut Toolbar Ning is 1212x1576 and the Dolphin Photo on the Pickens Ning (link below), is 1274x1576, The Shark Divers Photo is only 240x158 so it tiled the image.
Then, visit the page at the Blog Nut Toolbar Ning. Same header photo....hmmmm? How is that?
Under Your Photo On The Left Of Your Profile Page, Click Change Theme. You get a layout that you can change the colors, headers, text font, all of that anyway, so, the actual size of the header is what you will look for in the layout when you would like to customize it and add a header image :)
Here are the awesome questions from Gator :)
Critter,
Concerning your page on Pickens Plan, how did you incorporate the dolphins into your page? I want to put RSS feeds into my different sites (I think). What is RSS and how do I be doing it?
OK, Next View the Pickens Plan Ning site. Then, check out the response below.
Hiya Gator, No Worries :)
To get the Dolphins, you have to pick the layout with the bluish skyline image about half way down the page or either the very loud colored red one below it in the line up (These two have a larger header area ;)
Then, you click on the header image (scroll down to see the layout preview area and the header click will be there to change it and upload a photo :) (It has to be a large sized image or it will "block style" repeat, which is cool looking too though :)
OK, RSS feeds are a bit tricky on some sites but not on the Nings. When you add an RSS feed, (for example with a blogspot blog, the RSS feed is usually www.wavecritter.blogspot.com/feed, like that, but at the Ning you do not need to type out the RSS, just the http://www. stuff and it will grab it. You can't type in a redirected url though, like at The Lone Blog (one of my blogsites at blogspot, I have a redirected url from GoDaddy, it is www.TheLoneBlog.com, no good), I have to type out the real blogspot url here www.wavecritter.blogspot.com and it will read it. Just like at Google Reader (cool site) it has an area to add RSS through the url of the site too. Most sites are doing this because finding the RSS URL is weird sometimes :) Nope, it is not yet in the wiki, but I will post it in the Ning area (a good page to build, again Thanks for the great idea :)
Cool Beans Gator, and thanks again, if it isn't quite clear and I rushed or you have more questions, no worries :) Talk soon, Steff
I will add more to this page guys soon like a video how to at Ning and some more basics on adding events, groups and those things :) You Can Also Use an Existing Layout Like The Video Game One I Chose at the Learn Marketing Success Ning.
Whatever design choice is yours :) Make it your own.
